Litigation
Overview
Most disputes are resolved through negotiation, mediation, arbitration and, as a last resort, trial. We work with you to achieve a positive result. Effective advocacy involves carefully understanding your situation, organisation, taking practical steps and delivering cost-effective advice.
The subject matter of litigation is wide ranging: personal injury claims, property damage, floods, burns, scalding, wrongful death, negligence, breach of contract, collections, libel, slander, defamation, wrongful dismissal, sale of goods, bankruptcy, injunctions, registrars’ hearings and reviews of solicitor’s bills
David Varty obtained a Canada-wide arrest warrant and put a judgment debtor in jail three times when he did not obey court orders in a Subpoena to Debtor application. Choi v. Chen
David assisted a wrongfully dismissed client whose case ended up in the Court of Appeal on an unrelated issue. The case established that English and not French was the language of the civil courts in BC. McDonnell v. Federation.
